CULTURAL SELF
Cultural self-awareness refers to the awareness of how culture has influenced the self. This research investigated how such awareness might be related to cultural identification and well-being. Membership in various social groups influences various aspects of human development.
Family is one of the most influential social groups in a person's life. It influences his or her entire course of development.
Aside from family, schools, and the general educational environment, other factors such as social skills and knowledge are also integral to the development of a person's social self. · Aside from schools and families, communities also shape one's social self. It is not uncommon for people to adopt new beliefs and attitudes based on the environment they live in.
OVERALL LEARNING
On this topic, the saying “Show me your friends and I will tell you who you are,” is slightly applicable. Due to this saying, it can also infer that the way you speak, think and feel is a product of environment where you belong. The people that surround you has an impact on oneself and identity. Parenting style also has a big role on this topic, the way your parents raised you is also something that should also be noted. Your peers and friends is also a great factor that might affect your identity that is why it is really vital to purposively select who you want to be friends with.
STORY TIME
Growing up in Tondo, when I was still a kid, my mother always telling me that I should not be friends with some boys at my age since they are barbaric and hard-headed and she’s afraid that I might become like them. Instead, she tells me that it is fine for me to be friends with some girls on our neighborhood, with that she will not worry if I become something like some other boys at my age. Growing up, it became one of my mentality that boys are really rude and barbaric to the point that I adopt some of the feminine behavior of my girl friends on my childhood and I was afraid to be friends with them.
