The Emotional Self: True Colors

EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

Recognizing that we have emotions is a vital component of our Self. Emotions are a driving factor in many of our activities; we utilize them as a foundation for making decisions, adopting specific lifestyles, and interacting to others. However, while we can instantly detect our emotions, we have trouble identifying them and, for some, managing them.

Emotions are neuro-physiological reactions that are triggered by an external or internal input (emotions are physical).
Feelings are a subjective manifestation of emotions that are a self-perception of distinct emotions (feelings are mental).

Emotional intelligence (EQ) is the capacity to understand, use, and control one's own emotions in constructive ways in order to reduce stress, communicate effectively, empathize with others, overcome problems, and diffuse conflict.

OVERALL LEARNING

This topic taught me that emotional intelligence is also important as the cognitive intelligence. Emotional intelligence is a drive for us to perform different tasks eloquently and orderly. That being said, our emotions affect our effectivity as an individual, that’s why we must also take note of our emotions and be aware of it. I also discovered that our emotional intelligence and cognitive intelligence are dependent on each other. One cannot function properly if one is unstable. Best example is that, myself as a student, I cannot focus properly on my studies if there’s something heavy in my chest and I cannot identify what’s inside me.
